BOSSIER BEAT

The major $123 million reconstruction for Interstate 20 in Bossier and Caddo Parish has entered its final stage. The multimillion dollar project began in September of 2023 on a section of the interstate that services 70,000 to 100,000 vehicles, according to the DOTD.

Dripp Donuts fans will be glad to know that the restaurant has reopened with a sort-of-new name at the corner of Line and Gladstone in Shreveport, bringing back fan favorites and adding new items to the menu. The newest version of the restaurant is named Dripp Donuts & Chicken and it's in the South Highlands neighborhood. They will sell both baked goods and the popular Nashville hot fried chicken sandwich from the Dripp Chicken food truck. LSU Health Shreveport kicked off a new tradition Thursday with the inaugural Rasberry Lectureship, made possible by a record-setting $2.6 million donation from the family of longtime supporter James “Bubba” Rasberry. The event brings top biomedical researchers and clinicians to Shreveport and showcases the medical facility to visitors from across the country. In honor of the Rasberry family's contribution, the school renamed its 360-degree theater the Rasberry Auditorium.

Caddo Day at the Capitol

Caddo Day at the Capitol on April 24 was a high impact, short turnaround trip that united members of various government and private sector entities to take the concerns of Caddo Parish to the state Capitol with a unified front. For many years, people have complained that our community needs to show unity at that State level, and this inaugural trip was an excellent beginning to addressing that concern. From the planning process to the attendees, this group exhibited a diverse makeup of Caddo leaders from different agencies, political parties, races, ages, and other descriptors that aren’t always represented in the public eye as cohesive. But the resounding success of this trip showed just what we had suspected-that we make a much bigger impact together.

Does Bossier Parish School Board Use Constitutional Meritocracy or Illegal Preferential Hiring Practices?

The Bossier Parish School Board’s 2021–2026 District Improvement Plan, titled “WIN the Day; Every Student, Every Way,” should create a spark of controversy due to its incorporation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies. Certain elements of the plan may conflict with recent federal directives and Supreme Court rulings, raising concerns about its legality and alignment with constitutional principles.
