We are closing in on Memorial Day and there are several big events happening in the Shreveport area.

1. Tell us about your family growing up: I was primarily raised by my mother and grandmother who I absolutely love and adore to this day. I grew up as an only child for many years and then at the age of 16 we welcomed my baby sister.

Shreveport's historic Fairmont Apartments is back open following a $21 million renovation. Midland Residence, the company behind the renovations, says the changes restore the building's original 1952 charm while modernizing systems and amenities. New amenities include a fitness center, community room, and a computer learning center.

It is with immense joy and extreme excitement that I share with you my thoughts on the recent election of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the next Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. He chose as his new name, 'Pope Leo XIV.'

On Thursday, May 1, more than 300 volunteers attended United Way of Northwest Louisiana’s (UWNWLA) 40th Day of Caring event, sponsored in part by Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana. Day of Caring is UWNWLA’s largest single-day volunteer event.

Did you know Caddo Parish is one of only four parishes in Louisiana with a dedicated juvenile court? We, along with Orleans, Jefferson and East Baton Rouge Parishes, have a juvenile court with elected juvenile court judges who hear all matters regarding children. Current law limits and names which crimes committed by juveniles can be tried as adults, such as murder, armed robbery, and rape. An attempt in March to do away with that list was rejected overwhelmingly by Louisiana voters.

For the second week in a row, the Bossier Chamber is at the state Capitol to take issues related to Bossier down to Baton Rouge. April 28-29, President Lisa Johnson, Vice President Jessica Hemingway, and Government Relations Chair Kevin Nolten joined many Bossier leaders for Bossier Day at the Capitol. The group heard from many of the secretaries of our state agencies and had one-onone time with Gov. Jeff Landry.

All NW LA sales and use tax jurisdictions but one, the Bossier Parish Police Jury, realized an increase last month over 2024.
