Commercial building permits have been issued in Bossier City: $3 million for addition at 3701 Old Shed Road; $250,000 for remodel at 4343 Viking Loop:$100,000 new construction at 5503 Airline Drive. Several athletes from parish schools signed with colleges Wednesday, Nov, 13. Six Benton baseball players signed — pitcher Thomas Allen (ULM), pitcher Tanner Webb (North Texas Community College), pitcher/ outfielder Kade Bryant (Northwestern State), catcher/pitcher/infielder Griffin Sibley (Southeastern Iowa Community College), pitcher Jackson Jones (Louisiana Tech) and catcher/infielder Jax Prewitt (Centenary College). Three Haughton athletes signed — Christian Turner (baseball, Arkansas), Dixie Williams (softball, Centenary College) and Carson Adcock (fishing, LSUS). Airline softball pitchers Aleena Duran and Emily Rachal also signed. Rachal signed with Copiah Lincoln (Miss.) Community College and Duran signed with National Park College (Hot Springs, Ark.).

The Shreveport Police Department and the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse of Northwest Louisiana on Monday, Nov.19, have signed a joint agreement to help the city’s first responders better meet the needs of 911 callers experiencing a mental health crisis. The Northwest Louisiana Crisis Response Coalition was established in 2020 by SPD and LSU health Shreveport. Still today, a majority of 911 calls could be better resolved with the help of a crisis response team.

Shreveport’s 2025 budget is projected to be around $610 million. However, up to $4 million in cuts may challenge the budget. Due to flat sales tax projections. City leaders are looking for where savings can be found. The final decisions on the proposed budget cuts will be made in December, and approved changes will take effect in January.

Parkway High School and Centenary baseball alum, Seth Lugo earns his first career Gold Glove award. The Ark-La-Tex native finished with a 16-9 record and 3.00 earned run average, during the regular season. In the postseason, Lugo pitched in two games and compiled a 2.89 earned run average For the second straight semester, LSU Shreveport is celebrating record enrollment. LSUS enrolled 10,851 students this fall with growth in both undergraduate and graduate students. That figure is up 11 percent from Fall 2023 and more than 24 percent from Fall 2022. LSUS broke the 10,000-mark for the first time in Spring 2024 with 10,214 students.

At its Tuesday, Oct.22 meeting, the Bossier City Council approved $1.6 million to cover the close out costs and change orders for the Walter O. Bigby Carriageway. The total construction costs of Phase II of the project will be $43.5 million.
