Memorial Day is this coming Monday, May 25. Memorial Day is the last Monday in May, a day we honor men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Although parades and big get-togethers won’t be happening this year, there are things you and your family can do to honor these fallen heroes: (1) Get the kids involved with chalk art. Draw your best patriotic pictures on your sidewalk or driveway. (2) Decorate your front porch/lawn in red, white and blue. (3) Watch the National Memorial Day Concert at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 24, on PBS. (4) Post a social media tribute in honor of someone you may know who died while serving our country. (5) Fly a flag. Thank you to those who gave their lives so that we can live in the “land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Pandemic sucks. Stuck at home. Bereft of the usual morning coffee klatches, lunches out, movies with friends, church gatherings. A daily routine that is simpler and less stimulating.

Dear Gabby,

The concept of development and what development should entail can be as diverse as the persons attempting to discuss it. Development by its mere context should have something solidly in place in which to build upon.

Conversation between inspector and homeowner:
As businesses and churches start to open up in the East Texas area, things are not going to go back to “normal” any time soon. In fact, in my opinion, there will be a new “normal.” Since people are out and about more, running into friends and acquaintances, the “handshake” and the “hug” may not happen for quite some time. We, in the south, for the most part, are “huggers.” It’s hard not to, but for now, we need to continue to take precautions that the experts have put in place.
