MLB All Star Voting is open ... Week 2 update

Gone are the days of All-Star games being watchable. The NFL Pro Bowl is a joke and is in the scrap heap just begging for a facelift. The NBA All-Star game has become a laughable display of alley oops and half court shots, complete devoid of any semblance of defense, and, well, who watched the NHL All-Star game? The lone showcase of their sports best that has some saving grace in baseball’s All-Star game.

The history of the Brenner's Furniture Building

The history of the Brenner's Furniture Building

1229 Texas Avenue is not a building that would generally elicit any response other than "Oooh," and not in a good way. Many downtown buildings -- from the former Sears Department Store at 624 Texas Street to the Interstate Wholesale Furniture at 816 McNeil -- covered all their windows once air conditioning became available. Apparently, cooled air and natural light could not coexist at the time. At 1229 Texas Ave., that meant a metal skin on the facade and a mansard awning that are both just ... ugly.

Work soon to begin on Rubenstein's Building

For more than 35 years, two historic buildings have sat empty, devoid of life; creating no jobs, opportunities and no real tax base. All that has ended. The 107-year-old Rubenstein’s Building and the 115-yearold Lanford Building, 513-519 Milam St. in downtown Shreveport, were recently purchased by developer Isaiah Lee of Leeson Real Estate Investment Firm. Lee is a general contractor who, to date, has rehabed nearly 200 houses and buildings, many in Shreveport’s Highland neighborhood. But Lee also has experience in much bigger projects, all of which he will be bringing to bear on the Rubenstein project. Lee’s plan is to create 36 Class A units for apartment use and 12 units for AirBnb-style shorter term leasing, all ranging in size from 400 to 1,100 square feet.
