1. Tell us about your family when you were growing up: I grew up in Shreveport, La., in Twilight Meadows, in West Shreveport. To this day, we are a community of people who value education and family. My parents were educators in the Caddo Parish Public School system. My dad began teaching math at Union High School and when the school system was integrated, he moved to Captain Shreve High School. He transitioned to the Central Office in the mid-seventies and retired from the school system serving as the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. My dad had a tenure as the acting superintendent of the school system.

1. Tell us about your family growing up: I grew up in DeSoto Parish. We were a tight-knit family of four. I have an older brother. My dad was in finance and my mom worked at the Desoto Parish Voters Registration. We were not well off at all, but my parents worked hard to make sure we did not go without. They were present at everything we did. We spent a lot of time camping, fishing, and skiing.
