Tree sale offers chance to invest in the future
As you walk the streets of your neighborhood, have you noticed the decrease in tree canopy cover? I challenge you to do so. We have lost a significant portion of our canopy over the last 15 years, but this past year has been the most alarming. Accelerated by Hurricane Laura in September, our urban tree population is in decline. I personally think some of our neighborhoods are in dire straits.

Shreveport communications director set to move to Louisiana Democratic Party
City of Shreveport Communications Director Benjamin Riggs has accepted the director of communications position for the Louisiana Democratic Party. He notified Mayor Adrian Perkins of his decision on Jan. 6. Riggs will remain at his current post through Jan. 29 to bring any ongoing projects to a conclusion and assist with the transition.
LSUHS has been at forefront of Covid challenge
LSU Health Shreveport (LSUHS), one of only three academic medical centers in Louisiana, has been leading Louisiana’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ghali, the leadership team, faculty, staff and students responded to the challenge by Chancellor Ghali to do everything possible to address this pandemic. As an academic institution with renowned clinicians and scientists, it was recognized early on that LSUHS was uniquely positioned to help our community address the myriad of challenges wrought by the pandemic. The impact by LSUHS was swift and decisive with LSU Health Shreveport (LSUHS) standing up a robust, highly reliable PCR testing lab in less than two weeks allowing test processing in our community starting on March 25. LSU Health Shreveport was the first in Louisiana and among the first in the nation to offer multiple life-saving therapies to include convalescent plasma and inhaled nitric oxide therapy.
