Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana – 2020: The A Year in Review

In January 2020, no one thought that soon the world would be changing from “normal” to the “new normal.” The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana partners with over 150 community and faith-based nonprofit organizations -- homeless shelters, church food pantries, soup kitchens, residential centers and schools -- across Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, Bienville, Red River and DeSoto parishes. In January at the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, in addition to working with providing food to over 150 organizations, plans were being made to move into a new facility in the fall, Empty Bowls event planning was being held, and volunteers were assisting with various opportunities. People were discussing a virus they were hearing about in the media but that wasn’t in Northwest Louisiana … yet.

NASA sets date for first hot fire test of Space Launch System

STENNIS SPACE CENTER, Miss., Jan. 05, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Four Aerojet Rocketdyne RS-25 engines are being targeted to hot fire in unison for the first time on Jan. 17 as part of NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) Green Run test series. These engines will power the SLS rocket as the U.S. prepares to return humans to the Moon to stay and then on to Mars.

Town of Blanchard awarded nearly $3.7 million to consolidate with neighboring water system

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Town of Blanchard has been awarded $3,693,000 by the Louisiana Department of Health’s Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund (DWRLF) Program to merge with the struggling Bel-Di-Gil Water System, to restore it to compliance with the federal Safe Drinking Water Act requirements and to provide its customers with safe and reliable drinking water.
