Nov. 8 is the official election day in America, but election day has been taking place all over the country over the last 10 days with early voting, which has become a rite of passage for a lot of anxious Americans. the norm and not the exception. Voting is the only voice that regular citizens have in a democracy. Cherish it. Fight for it. Engage in it. Value it.
Jesus was given a job to do - a mission - and he was going to do it. That’s why he asked, “are there not 24 hours in a day?“ The disciples said, “Hurry up.“ Jesus said, “There’s a time for everything.“ Jesus had this majestic sense that his life made sense. Don’t put him up on a pinnacle and say, “That was al right for Jesus because he was divine.“ Jesus was the son of God, and he came to show us that we are partners with the law of the kingdom. What is that? “You reap what you sow.“ If you want a harvest, you must invest in the seed. You must sow the seed and then feel like a fool, just sitting back, giving it time to grow. Most of us are only aware of our own endurance and our own strength. The apostle Paul said, “When I discover I am weak, then I know I am drawing on the power of God.“ Friends, if we don’t believe anything, then we will not change anything. We need to believe that our lives, our problems, our troubles, and our personalities are part of a larger scheme. We know this if we are part of a music band. We know it if we work on the bridge of a ship. We know it if we play on a team. Sadly, by the tens of thousands, we are living solitary lives here in Shreveport. We forget that each of us is linked to someone else in the larger scheme of God’s invisible kingdom. Look, we will find the meaning of life only by giving ourselves to a cause. Right now, our mission is to care for one another. To pray, to encourage. Just do it.
All three of the sales taxing jurisdictions in Shreveport rose during October. The city of Shreveport tallied $13,480,226, 1.4% above last year. The city's YTD total collections of $131,526,555 are a strong 7.4% higher than the first 10 months of 2021. This figure already exceeds the general fund's $126 million annual appropriation with two months left. It is likely the final revenue collected will top $155 million. These numbers suggest that the decision to award a 13% pay raise in early 2022 was easily justified. Its rate is 2.75%.Caddo Parish School Board has a sales tax rate of 1.5%. It has received $86,262,426 during

Here, There and Everywhere
A childhood friend lives in New York City, in Manhattan. She told me she loves observing the doormen standing in front of the various apartment houses she passes. She searches their eyes, looking for those who see their work as a calling. Some see it only as a job and a paycheck.
There are those who say that Shreveport is ' gone.' And they have expressed that sentiment either by complaining about the state of things in our fair city, or they have actually made the choice to move away. They've moved to Bossier Parish, DeSoto Parish, the State of Texas, or any number of other 'more desirable' (at least in their mind) locations. Their reasons for relocating are varied, but most center around the local crime rate, lack of viable job opportunities, the business climate or their poor appraisal of the public school system.
Is anyone surprised that Mayor Perkins is giving away the kitchen sink in October? His latest goody is Wi-Fi. Universal Digital Access, something the mayor has talked about for some time. Announced just before Election Day.
