A commanding general convened his staff and said to them, “Battles are won the day before.“ The planning that goes into a life determines how well it will succeed. A college professor said to a young lady on graduation day, “Understand that you are launching your ship into a dangerous ocean.“ “Yes, I know it,“ said the young lady, who then reached into her pocket, pulled a small Bible out, held it up and said, “but I’ve got a reliable GPS.“ The starting point of the journey with God is the realization that our sins are forgiven. I ask you one of the questions I was asked by the bishop at my ordination: do you believe in a pardoning God?
The 2022 Shreveport mayoral primary ended just about how the oddsmakers would have projected – with Greg Tarver and Tom Arceneaux advancing to the runoff.
Tuesday night there was a drive-by shooting outside Councilman Alan Jackson’s watch party on Baird Road. A man who was going to the party was hit with bullets while pulling into the parking lot. Earlier Tuesday, District B City Council candidate Craig Lee discovered that the door to his home had been kicked in and fires had been started in three different rooms, changing his plans to hold a watch party there.
Tom Arceneaux and Gregg Tarver will be on the ballot for Shreveport mayor on Saturday, Dec. 10.

These past months have been difficult ones for the city of Shreveport and for the country dealing with the aftermath of Covid, out of control inflation and high gas prices. Could national and statewide trends affect elections in our local area? According to WUSF Public Media, Republicans have taken the lead in traditionally “blue” Miami-Dade County, Fla., in early voting. When asked about national trends in the 2022 midterm cycle, JMC Analytics demographer and “numbers guru” John Couvillon says, “Republicans are energized with in-person voting, while there is a big drop-off with mail-in voting, which hurts the Democrats.”
While we wait for Election Day results, let me tell you about the most positive hour of my week in Shreveport. I go to Oak Park Elementary and spend one hour in a classroom with one student working on improving their math and language skills. Oak Park has been on Caddo’s list of “failing schools” for some time, but I don’t see it. I see children in the Communities in Schools (CIS) program that are excited to be there. They ask if they can come twice a week.
