When I sat down to write this article, I thought, wow! Something different, yet encouraging in spite of the coronavirus that could put our children, grandchildren at ease, even parents.

A recent essay here addressed chipmunks’ theft of fruit from my tomato plant. I called the resulting conflict over my tomatoes the “Battle of Weedy Gulch.”

For those of you who find your kids (or yourselves) bored with nothing to do, try the local library. I love to read and have read about 20 books so far during the Covid virus time. A few of our grandkids LOVE to read, and their moms are great about taking them to the library. Library cards are almost always free, and it’s a great way to continue “learning” without your kids even realizing it. As the old TV show commercial used to say, “Reading is FUNdamental”.
Driving through a neighborhood the other day, I noticed one house had a sign proudly displaying that it won the “Most Beautiful Lawn” award. And it was a beautiful yard, green grass, an assortment of hedges in many pretty colors of green and colorful flowers. What do I need to do to win this award? I want it, I need it, I have got to have it. My competitive instincts kicked in, and my mind was spinning on how to win, win, win!
