According to Shreveport's Economic Director Drew Mouton, the passage of a budget amendment at the Shreveport City Council meeting on Tuesday was just a precursor to the possible purchase of the Millennium Studios by the city of Shreveport.
Sci-Port Discovery Center is the new home of the Region 7 STEM Center serving Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, DeSoto, Red River, Bienville, Lincoln, Sabine and Natchitoches parishes. The Louisiana Legislature appropriated $2 million to advance regional STEM efforts throughout Louisiana. Through this effort, Regional STEM centers will build a collaborative, sustainable, infrastructure for STEM that fosters innovative opportunities that inspire young people to be leaders in science, technology, engineering and math. In the 21st century, scientific and technological innovations have become increasingly important as we face the benefits and challenges of both globalization and a knowledge-based economy.
The Shreveport Railroad Museum, co-located at 142 North Common with the Shreveport Water Works Museum, is planning a celebration Jan. 30 to debut their new HO model railroad. The new model train layout features a scale buildings that would have been downtown in the 1940s–'60s, and took roughly six months to complete. A big grand re-ppening that will feature live music, food trucks and history talks is planned for Saturday, May 13, as part of National Train Day.
