Stop the circus at Shreveport City Council meetings
All that have been missing at recent Shreveport City Council meetings are popcorn and peanut vendors. The clowns arrive in large numbers, and their antics have been anything but entertaining.

Animal activists in Caddo Parish have constantly and continually complained as to the actions and inactions of the Caddo Parish Animal Services (CPAS). The complaints concern the operation of the CPAS facility and the enforcement of parish ordinances concerning ownership, treatment and care of pets.

A recent study shows that black people are the least vaccinated in Caddo Parish and surrounding areas, and the extraordinary outreach programs are not having any impact on improving that statistic. The truth is that older blacks are getting the vaccination, but young blacks are lagging far behind in obtaining the shots, and that is a problem.

A professional acquaintance quit Twitter last week. “It’s engineered to promote toxicity, lies and polarization,” he wrote. “I’m done.”

I find that I have very little patience anymore. I like to think everything about life is better when you can laugh, but lately I fear my laughter is becoming borderline manic.

This story starts with a flat tire, turns left at ducklings and stops hard at fire ants. Where else is that even possible?

Oh, boy, this column practically writes itself. All I have to do is provide the coffee and computer. The Shreveport City Council met this week. The well-attended meeting included discussion of Mayor Perkins’ bond proposal, which the council accepted for a vote by the citizens.

Well, if it is a new year, then it has to be a new bond proposal, and if there is a new bond proposal, then there is also a continued outcry to build a new police headquarters, which is much needed. Building a new facility might be cost-prohibitive, which could lead to an effort to purchase a current property that may be available, like the old Sears building in Mall St. Vincent that is being seriously considered.

It’s like watching a line of penguins walking on an iceberg.
