News from Baton Rouge last week that a bill has been introduced in the Senate to claw back the $100-million-dollar 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster settlement that had been set aside for Northwest Louisiana and specifically the Jimmie Davis Bridge repair. In 2019, former Senator John Milkovich and Senator Barrow Peacock added an amendment removing the Jimmie Davis Bridge (JDB) from that bill and replaced it with the I-49 Inner-City Connector in Caddo Parish.

The drawing of Caddo Parish school districts should not be a partisan exercise, but it should reflect the population changes that have taken place over the last 10 years. It is important for the districts to align with the demographic changes that have taken place, but not at the expense of being seen as unfair to one group or another.

So long, Fairgrounds Field

This week we learned that Fairgrounds Field, once home to the Shreveport Captains from 1986 until their demise, will be demolished. We’ve known this was coming. We watched as Billy the Exterminator tried and failed to remove the Chiroptera (bat) colony that moved in after the stadium was no longer active. We’ve seen YouTube videos shot by amateurs spelunking through the decaying interior. Now there is video online revealing a feral cat colony as well.
