The Goodness of So Many!

Right here in our own backyard, many witnessed the hearts and minds of those who cared. Those who cared when there was a crisis in our area during the recent ice and snowstorm. It was refreshing and reassuring to see the goodness of people. Neighbors helping neighbors, good people coming forth to help others.

What is wrong with Shreveport? Is it no vision or lack of leadership?

That is a recent question from a reader, and honestly, the question should be, what is right with Shreveport? That question might be a little harder to answer right now, but the question of what is wrong with Shreveport cries out for an answer from the people who have been elected to lead the city, the mayor and the seven elected city council members. It is their responses that matter. There needs to be a meeting of the minds to determine where they want to take and how they want to do it together. That is called leadership and vision.

Four and a half years ago on Oct. 26, 2016, candidate Donald Trump announced “A New Deal for Black America.” A 10-point plan for urban renewal of which it appears he took action on only two, protection from illegal immigration and America First foreign policy. Where do you think we would be today if he had taken action on the other eight, especially great education through school choice, safe communities, tax reforms to create jobs and lift up people and communities, and financial reforms to expand credit to support new job creation?

Likely Poor March Sales Tax Receipts

The 4/1/2021 report from the Caddo-Bossier Sales and Use Tax Office will show February sales tax receipts reported in early March for the City of Shreveport and every other Caddo Parish taxing jurisdiction which levies a sales tax of any amount. I’m concerned we will see a rather big drop tp be reported in such sales tax collections for the 3 reasons noted below.
