Police seek info on Saturday homicide

Just after midnight on Saturday, June 17, Shreveport police officers were called to respond to a shooting in the 6200 block of South Inwood Road.

Arriving officers located an elderly female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds from an apparent drive-by shooting. The victim was outside a residence in the Western Hills neighborhood when she was struck by a bullet fired from a passing vehicle just after 12:10 a.m.

The Shreveport Fire Department transported the victim to ochsner LSU Health hospital, where she was pronounced deceased at 12:45 a.m.

The victim has been identified by the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office as 71-year-old Brenda Matthews. She was positively identified through fingerprint comparison.

An autopsy was ordered. Investigators with the Shreveport Police Violent Crimes and Crime Scene Units responded to the scene to collect evidence. Shreveport police detectives are asking for assistance from the community to help solve this homicide Investigation.
