Community Meal on Thanksgiving Day Slated to Serve 1,200

Local volunteers make this an annual tradition

The Salvation Army is opening its doors to the community on Thanksgiving Day to serve a traditional holiday meal, complete with turkey and all the fixings.  Dozens of volunteers spend the day serving meals to those who come to enjoy food and fellowship. This year’s community meal will be served on Thursday, November 28 from 11:00am – 1:15pm at the Shreveport Corps at 200 East Stoner Avenue.

Interview opportunities will be available between 9:30am-11:00am with some of our long-time volunteers. Lieutenant Jamaal and Tami Ellis also are available for interviews.

Local members of the non-profit, Operation Barbeque Relief, will provide the turkey.  We are thankful to the community for their generous donations of store-bought desserts. Only our afternoon volunteer slots are still open for Thanksgiving Day. To learn more about other holiday volunteer opportunities, please call 424-3200, ext. 23.

The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in London in 1865, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for more than 130 years in the United States. Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. 82 cents of every dollar The Salvation Army spends is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide.
