Benton High School is pleased to announce Coach Dane Peavy is becoming a Tiger and will be sporting purple and gold on the diamond as the new head baseball coach. Peavy is currently the head baseball coach at DeRidder High School, north of Lake Charles, LA.

Kevin Murnane, PhD, associate professor of pharmacology, toxicology and neuroscience; associate professor of psychiatry; and director of basic science research for Louisiana Addiction Research Center (LARC), was awarded a National Institute of Health (NIH) federal grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for $2.6 million dollars, funded over five years. The collaborative extramural research brings together experts from LSU Health Shreveport, Emory University, Mercer University and Morehouse School of Medicine. The research project entitled, “Exploring the Role of Oxytocin in the Regulation of Neuronal Excitability,” is focused on form of catastrophic childhood epilepsy called Dravet syndrome.
Charles Jacobs is still a judge in the 26th Judicial District for Bossier and Webster parishes.

There is an unremarkable little building in downtown Shreveport at the corner of Edwards and Crockett streets. Built in 1971, the building has no defining style and no particular beauty. When the Spor- Tran Bus Terminal was across the street, the little building served as one of two payday loan businesses that catered to transit riders. When the bus terminal moved, the businesses left, and the building, like others on nearby Crockett, became vacant.

Businessman Mike Collier is a busy man with a lot of interests and a big heart. He is the owner of Manpower Temporary Services, has served in the Republican Party in Bossier City, is the father of Benton’s police chief, a proud grandfather, the owner of several race cars and racehorses, the owner of a wedding chapel in Benton and also happens to be a heart/ kidney transplant survivor.
