Here are the 2023 dates for the election to fil the unexpired term of former city marshal Charles Caldwell Jr.:


Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin invites the public to the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum to view an exhibit of “Changing Landscapes: Photographs Along the Solomon Northup Trail” by Jan Beauboeuf from Jan. 19 through Feb. 20. The exhibition of color photography will open on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 5-7 p.m. The public is invited to meet the artist and view the exhibit in the West Wing Gallery.

Lincoln/Union Parishes District Attorney John Belton will serve as Grand Marshal. He will be joined by local Civil Rights icon Maxine Sarpy as Honorary Marshal and regional artist KaDavien Baylor as co-Grand Marshal.

United Way of Northwest Louisiana (UWNWLA) has been awarded a $25,000 sponsorship from investment banking company Raymond James in support of United Way’s educational program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

The Bridge Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center is pleased to introduce two new programs for caregivers and those with Alzheimer’s and dementia in collaboration with Noel Community Arts Program. The Bridge provides comprehensive services, educational opportunities, and resources for those affected by alzheimer’s and dementia. Noel Community Arts Program (NCAP) is an outreach ministry of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church and is located in Highland. “Collaborating with another nonprofit in the community is an excellent way to share resources,” said Paulette Freeman, executive director of The Bridge Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center. “Especially in dealing with seniors and those affected by dementia.” Art Connections – Every third Friday. Art Connections is an educational workshop for individuals with memory loss to help rebuild connections and improve cognitive abilities through art with a trained art instructor. Caregivers are invited to observe, discuss, and create their own art. Art Connections will be held on the third Friday of the Month at 10 a.m. at Noel Memorial United Methodist located at 520 Herndon Street, Shreveport, La. The first Art Connections will take place on Friday, Jan. 19. Drum Beats – Every fourth Thursday. Drum Beats is an educational workshop for individuals with memory loss to help rebuild connections and improve cognitive abilities through music using drums and hand percussion instruments. The program allows participants and caregivers to enjoy familiar tunes and rhythmic instruments with a certified drum instructor. Drum Beats will be held on the fourth Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. at The Bridge Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center at 821 Olive Street, Shreveport, La. The first Drum Beats will take place on Thursday, Jan. 25. Other programs offered by The Bridge include: First Wednesday Workshops: These monthly, educational mini-workshops are for caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Local experts present topics related to Alzheimer’s and dementia in a one-hour session with time allotted for questions by the participants. Workshops are held on the first Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. unless otherwise stated. If caregivers cannot leave their loved ones at home, The Bridge offers supervised and enjoyable activities during the workshop for those affected by dementia. First Wednesday Workshops are held at The Bridge Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center at 851 Olive St. Shreveport.

The Strategy Alternatives Consortium at LSU-S (SACLSUS) and BRF present the Vietnam Conflict 50th Anniversary Commemoration on Friday, Jan.20 at 2 p.m. in the LSUS University Center Ballroom. This free event will honor all Vietnam-era veterans and focus on how strategic bombing in Operation LINEBACKER II brought North Vietnam back to the negotiating table. History professor Dr. Blake Dunnavent of LSU-Shreveport will give a brief lecture on the importance of airpower and LINEBACKER II, followed by a panel discussion with Vietnam veterans. These first-hand accounts will each offer a unique perspective and more a personal look into the lives of those who served.
