SPD officer arrested in Wednesday morning shooting

Investigators with the Shreveport Police Department’s Homicide Unit have a man in custody following a shooting early this morning in west Shreveport.

On Wednesday, February 19, 2020, just before 5:00 a.m., Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 9100 block of Bushnell Lane. Arriving officers located 27-year-old Reginald Jones suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot injury to his leg. Jones was transported to Ochsner LSU Health with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators responded and through their investigation, they were able to identify 27-year-old Darius Morris as the alleged shooter. Detectives learned that Jones and Morris were engaged in a verbal altercation, which ultimately led to the shooting. Morris was taken into custody and following interviews with investigators was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder. Bond has not been set in the matter.

Darius Morris is employed by the Shreveport Police Department as a patrol officer and has been so since July 2016. He was not on duty during the time of the incident.

"I am extremely disappointed in the senseless actions of this officer, stated Chief Ben Raymond. "As public servants, we are sworn to serve and protect and this violates the oath that we all take when donning the badge. We work very hard as a department to reduce gun violence in our city and Officer Morris' actions will not be tolerated."
