Shreveporter convicted of domestic abuse, weapons charge
District Judge Charles Tutt determined that Contravious Travon Vinson, 26, committed the crimes as charged. Vinson will return to face Judge Tutt March 11, 2020, for sentencing. Domestic abuse aggravated assault carries a sentence of one to five years and a fine of up to $5,000. Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon carries a sentence of five to 20 years and a fine of up to $5,000.
Evidence and testimony was proffered January 23, 2020, and January 20, 2020. Attorneys argued the case Thursday, February 20, 2020, after which Judge Tutt delivered his verdict.
On December 12, 2018, Contravious Vinson produced a black revolver and fired two shots on DeSoto Street in Shreveport hoping to harm or frighten his former girlfriend. Police apprehended Vinson, along with a revolver matching the one used in the crime, in a house down the street. Vinson also asked a witness either to say that the gun belonged to someone else, or to “just keep her mouth shut.” A fingerprint expert used court documents to confirm that Vinson had a 2013 felony conviction for possession of a Schedule III controlled dangerous substance and thus was prohibited by law from possessing a firearm.
The prosecutors were Assistant District Attorneys William Gaskins and Brittany Arvie. Vinson was defended by Michael Enright.
