Now that Shreve Memorial Library branches have resumed indoor programming, patrons of the library can enjoy a wide assortment of programs for children, teens and adults. Children of all ages are invited to visit their favorite Shreve Memorial Library branch to enjoy a live, interactive story time and dream, discover, do. All programs are free and open to the public; however masks, registration and social distancing are required.
Shreve Memorial Library’s mobile makerspace, the Make & Go, is bringing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) learning to library branches throughout Caddo Parish.

Krista Queen, PhD, has been selected as the director of viral genomics and surveillance at LSU Health Shreveport effective Sept. 1. Dr. Queen received her Bachelor of Science in biological sciences from LSU Shreveport and is an alumna of the LSUHS School of Graduate Studies. She completed her PhD in 2012 and went on to be a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology under the mentorship of Dr. Rona S. Scott. Following her postdoctoral fellowship at LSUHS, Dr. Queen was an ORISE Fellow for five years with the Pathogen Discovery and Detection Team in the Gastroenteritis and Respiratory Viruses Lab Branch of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD)/Division of Viral Diseases (DVD) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Ga. She then went on to continue her career at CDC as a microbiologist with the Genomics and Discovery Team in the Respiratory Viruses Branch of DVD/NCIRD.
Yevgeny Yontov, internationally known pianist and winner of the 2013 Wideman International Piano Competition in Shreveport, will perform Sunday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m. at the Emmett Hook Center, First United Methodist Church.
The Independence Bowl Foundation and Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl introduced on Wednesday “1st & Give” – the new philanthropic endeavor of the bowl and foundation. The first event in this newly established endeavor will be the inaugural 1st & Give Charity Flag Football Tournament at Independence Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 9.
