The Office of the Shreveport-Caddo Metropolitan Planning Commission of Caddo Parish (MPC) is announcing two public forums regarding the city’s proposed Residential Rental Inspection Program. The purpose of the Rental Housing Inspection Program is to address the issue of substandard rental properties by allowing city officials to inspect and ensure that rental properties meet the minimum standards for safe living conditions. For years, residents throughout the city have lobbied hard for such a program to help preserve the quality of Shreveport’s neighborhoods and available housing. If passed, it would be one of the first programs in Louisiana.
Mayor Adrian Perkins gathered with youth sports leaders and others to announce the investments on Tuesday, Sept.13, ahead of city council approval. He said the appropriations are the result of 11 listening sessions his administration held to let people have a say on how some of the federal handout can be used.
