The Northwest Louisiana APEX partnered with Barksdale Air Force Base`s 2nd Contracting Squadron to plan, organize and host the Barksdale Air Force Base Expo which resulted in area small businesses meeting contracting officers, small business liaison officers, and prime contractors. Logistics for the event, led by NWLA APEX contract specialist Jennifer Whittington and assisted by all partners, were labor-intensive and included ordering pipe and drape with booth signage, creating layouts, ordering meals, heavily marketing to both businesses and base buyers to maximize attendance, securing background checks and security clearance for over 200 vendor participants, creating ads for vendors, and building a slide show for the registration area, and so much more – all while maintaining day-today operations and counseling.

Red River South Marina recently hosted two fishing tournaments. One for bass and the other for catfish. The bass tournament in town was the Quad State Bass Club for their 30th anniversary tournament. The King Kat tournament trail was also on the Red River.

A national supply chain services company will become the latest tenant at the former General Motors site in west Shreveport. thyssenKrupp Supply Chain Services, Inc., which bills itself as a leader in renewable energy logistics, will join the 3.5 millionsquare- foot campus, according to an announcement Wednesday by Industrial Realty Group, LLC. Caddo Parish Commissioner Steven Jackson recently announced that a large amount of funding has been secured for housing development in north Louisiana. The $53 million in funding from the Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) will be used to help repopulate neighborhoods and increase overall economic growth. The grants are provided through LHC’s Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery and Piggyback Resilient Mixed-Income NOFA. Funding will help build, renovate and/or modernize workforce housing. Caddo will receive just over $34 million to help with critical renovations at Fairmont Towers Apartments, Lakeside Garden Apartments and Galilee City Apartments. Funding was awarded for the construction of new singlefamily homes for King Oaks V.

If you drive Marshall Street, you are likely struck by two things: work taking place at the 1200 Marshall building and, of course, the beautiful, colorful mural under the interstate. The historic building is repositioning itself for another 'new' life, but the owner is taking the look of the building back to its roots, and interesting roots they are. Our earliest records show the 'fireproof' brick-and-metal building came into being in 1915 as Cornwell’s Bakery and Grocery, where you could get fancy candied cherries for $.60 per pound, and fish flakes for $.15. (No, we don’t know what fish flakes were used for.)

Caddo Parish Parks & Recreation to Host 2nd Annual Jr. NBA Skills Challenge in Memory of Devin Myers

Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with Raising Canes will host the 2nd Annual Jr. NBA Skills Youth Challenge (ages 7-13). The event will take place on Saturday, April 1 from 9 a.m. – 12 noon at the Huntington High School gymnasium. Participation is free and open to the public, but preregistration is required.
