Statement From 114 Texas Street, LLC

As the owner of 114 Texas St., I am as heartbroken as anyone could be over yesterday’s tragic fire. I am also thankful for the courageous work of Chief Clarence Reese and all of the men and women of the Shreveport Fire Department as well as all of the first responders who helped to protect and preserve both life and property. I give thanks none were harmed and damage to surrounding structures was limited to the extent possible. I have only owned 114 Texas St. since 2019, purchasing the property from the city of Shreveport in its pre-burned, yet dilapidated, state.

Shreve Memorial Library's One Book One Parish Starts Oct. 1

Shreve Memorial Library’s Annual One Book One Parish campaign kicks off this Saturday, Oct. 1. Each year, Shreve Memorial Library’s One Book One Parish campaign unites Caddo Parish by promoting one book title throughout the month of October and encouraging adults to join a parish-wide conversation about the selected title. Programming for One Book One Parish takes place at all Shreve Memorial Library branches and includes book discussions, art classes, presentations, workshops and more all inspired by the year’s winning title. Shreve Memorial Library asked, and patrons voted 'West with Giraffes' by Lynda Rutledge the 2022 One Book One Parish title. 'West with Giraffes' is an emotional, rousing novel inspired by the incredible true story of two giraffes who made headlines and won the hearts of Depression-era America. With an eccentric cast of characters, some real and some fictional, 'West with Giraffes' tells the story of Woodrow Wilson Nickel’s 12-day journey to deliver Southern California’s first giraffes to the San Diego Zoo. It is part adventure, part historical saga and part coming-of-age love story. A complete summary of the book is included below, and copies of 'West with Giraffes' are available for checkout at Shreve Memorial Library branches.
