Officer involved shooting in South Shreveport, suspect jailed after hold up in nearby apartments

A Shreveport Police officer is on the mend, while the suspect accused of shooting him sits behind bars facing attempted murder charges.

Shreveport Police investigators have charged a 65 year old man in a shooting which sent a veteran Shreveport Police officer to the hospital Monday morning.  Just before Noon on April 6, 2020, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to the Residences of SpringRidge Apartment Homes relative to a shots fired call.  Information had been relayed to responding officers that a male resident fired a shot at grounds crews there on the property after becoming agitated with them.  It is reported the suspect, after firing the round, went back inside his apartment.

Multiple Shreveport Police patrol officers arrived at the scene and attempted to make contact with the man accused of firing the shot.  As officers arrived at the man's apartment building, he opened fire with a handgun, striking police Corporal Robert Brice in the side of his body narrowly missing his department issued ballistic vest.  Corporal Brice was removed from the scene by officers present with him and taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released suffering only minor injuries.

Additional police resources from the Louisiana State Police, United States Marshal's Office, Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, Shreveport City Marshal's Office, Shreveport Fire Department, and the Bossier City Police Department were requested and responded to the scene to assist in the apprehension of the suspect.  After just over four hours of repeated attempts to convince the suspect to exit, authorities entered the apartment home and took William Torrans into police custody.  Torrans was transported via ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries he sustained while resisting arrest.  For his alleged role in the crime, Torrans faces a charge of Attempted First Degree Murder of a Police Officer and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.  Special thanks to the assisting agencies, whose coordinated efforts helped to bring a very violent suspect into custody.
