FAA awards funding grants to local airports

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced airports in 16 parishes will receive $9,843,973 in federal funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for taxiway construction, pavement rehabilitation, hangar construction and more. Airports in Shreveport, Morehouse, Concordia, Acadia, Avoyelles, Jefferson Davis, Jackson, Sabine, Natchitoches, Calcasieu, Webster, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Vermilion, Caddo and De Soto parishes will benefit directly from these grants.

Louisiana House Bill 7 seems like a no-brainer. It will treat diapers and women’s period products as the necessary items that they are and remove the state sales tax on these items. HB7 will leave a small, estimated $11 million hole in the state budget. Louisiana does not generally collect sales taxes on necessities. Medications, for instance, are not taxed in Louisiana.

In Louisiana, much like the rest of the country, the CO- VID-19 pandemic resulted in drastic decreases in school enrollment. According to a recent report, public school enrollment dropped by 2.3%, and nearly half of the decrease is among PreK and kindergarten students. For the youngest learners, in their most crucial learning years, this loss in early learning can mean serious, long-term consequences.
