Oh, George Washington, do we need you now. And not for your commitment to public service or willingness to leave office after two terms as president.
During the early hours on Feb. 28, I was “surfing the channels.” My destination would eventually be “Hogan’s Heroes.” I decided I would catch a “bit” of the local news first. As fate would have it, I stopped on KSLA-12. The broadcast was about to feature an African-American history education piece.
Over the years we have heard politicians and others say that “government can’t do everything, nor should they.” That is a true statement, and one that many Americans agree with. Many Americans believe that government should be there in times of crisis, but that government can’t be all things to all people.
Our house is in chaos after we rescued a new dog
On Dec. 11, 2021, Shreveport voters passed a $69.07 million public safety general obligation bond proposal with a 59.2% yes vote; 9,202 voters supported it, and 6,345 opposed it. It is time for the city administration to put forth its specific plans for this large amount of bonds.
Three people have said they will run for Shreveport mayor this year. In the near future, there will be four in the ring.
Everything worked. The lights are back on the Texas Street Bridge. Gremlins did briefly get ahold of the switch that turned on the lights. Electronics disappoint us when we count on them most. The evening was a little rainy and warm for February. A year ago, Shreveport was enduring Snowpocalypse ’21 and the near total breakdown of our water system, so it was great to see this event downtown this year.
I was asked some years ago to speak at a black history program celebration. The individual who was chair of the organization gave me the specifics of what my presentation should focus upon: name recognition, achievements, accomplishments, etc. I didn’t necessarily agree with the criteria stated, but being the “Dean of Sarcastic Realism” that I am, I agreed.
