Caddo Parish Commission adopts 2024 Budget

The Caddo Parish Commission officially adopted the Parish of Caddo’s 2024 Annual Operating and Capital Improvement Budget at the Commission’s annual budget adoption meeting on Dec. 5. The $146 million operating budget addresses the parish’s most urgent operational needs, capital improvement initiatives, support of parish agencies, economic development and social programs.

Santa Claus is Coming to Shreve Memorial Library December 5 – 21

Santa Claus is coming to town, and he is making stops at Shreve Memorial Library branches throughout Caddo Parish. Beginning Monday, Dec. 5, and continuing through Thursday, Dec. 21, families and children of all ages can visit the library to meet the jolly old elf himself and celebrate the holiday season with special programs and lots of fun. All Santa visits and library programs are free and open to the public. Throughout the month of December, Shreve Memorial Library branches will welcome Santa Claus and a few of his friends to spread holiday cheer. Families can have their photographs taken with Santa and enjoy holiday stories, crafts, music and more while visiting the library. Santa visits are scheduled at the following Shreve Memorial Library branches on the dates and times listed below:

All he wants is an official Red Ryder Carbine-Action 200-shot Range Model Air Rifle, but as his parents and teachers warn him, “You’ll shoot your eye out!” 'A Christmas Story, the Musical' chart’s Ralphie’s desperate quest to ensure that his perfect gift ends up under the tree on Christmas morning, and includes all of the movie’s best-loved moments, such as the Old Man’s leg-shaped lamp, the tongue-on-a-flagpole scene, the bunny suit, the Santa slide and all of Ralphie’s extravagant daydreams. The show is a big Broadway musical, complete with dazzling dance numbers, gorgeous sets and an incredibly talented cast of youngsters who play Ralphie and his classmates.

If Douglas White would have had to predict 18 months ago whether the U.S. economy could achieve a “soft landing,” he, along with most other economists, would have given a resounding no. But the Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank, appears to be threading the needle of stemming the rise of inflation while not sending the economy into a recession. Local economic numbers are following that trend, according to third quarter data from the Northwest Louisiana Economic Dashboard released in mid-November. Local inflation ticked down slightly in October, sitting at a 3.2 percent increase from a year ago (3.7 percent in September). The Shreveport-Bossier MSA (includes Caddo, Bossier and DeSoto parishes) unemployment is 3.7 percent, a small increase from previous months but down from its annual high of 4.6 percent in June. “When we started this project seven quarters ago, the Fed had started to hike interest rates and we were at the height of inflation,” said White, the director for the Center for Business and Economic Research at LSUS, which compiles the local economic data for the dashboard. “I didn’t think the Fed was going to pull it out (a soft landing).
