Sennet Becomes Caddo’s New Director of Communications and Marketing

With a lifelong love of education, Marquel Sennet is getting back to her roots as she assumes the role of director of communications and marketing for Caddo Schools. Much of Sennet’s life has been intertwined with K-12 education as she comes from a family of educators and also covered northwest Louisiana education as a TV news reporter and anchor. This gave her unique insight into the stories of students, teachers, staff and community members. “Caddo is excited to bring Marquel on board,” said Dr. T. Lamar Goree, superintendent of Caddo Schools. “She has such a wealth of experiences in both education and journalism. She will do an incredible job of elevating the stories of our schools as we seek to tell the Caddo story.” Most recently Sennet served as communications director for the city of Shreveport. She also has 13 years of experience in journalism in Shreveport and Beaumont, Texas. In her time as a journalist, she extensively covered northwest Louisiana education while also covering statewide and national stories including the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. For more than five years, Sennet worked at Southern University of Shreveport, where she served as history program coordinator and an assistant history professor. Sennet’s new role brings her full circle as she works to highlight the work of one of the state’s largest school systems. “I am honored to join Caddo Schools and to showcase the students and employees of this great system,' Sennet said. “Since I came to Shreveport, one of my greatest joys has been to visit schools and tell their stories and this role allows me only do more of that while informing our community of all that sets Caddo apart.”

A Year in Review for LSU Health Shreveport

A Year in Review for LSU Health Shreveport

LSU Health Shreveport ends 2022 grateful for so many things but especially the generous support of individual and corporate donors along with local, state and federal agencies. Their combined support resulted in LSU Health Shreveport securing full funding of the $84 million Center for Medical Education and Emerging Viral Threats, which is scheduled to open fall of 2023. This transformational project, the first new building on the LSU Health Shreveport campus in 15 years, was designed to reimagine the overall student experience in a facility that will connect mind, body and nature. As medical education and technology improve across our nation, so must the training curriculum and teaching spaces at LSU Health Shreveport. The ability to expand medical education comes at the perfect time as demand for medical professionals continues to increase with an aging population and record numbers of health-care professionals retiring. The timing of an expanded and enhanced Center of Excellence for Emerging Viral Threats (CEVT) is also critically important to ensuring LSUHS remains positioned to serve as a leader in the current and future pandemic response. To date, LSU Health Shreveport has processed more than 795,000 COVID-19 tests from 63 of Louisiana’s 64 parishes, administered more than 131,000 COVID-19 vaccinations and served more than 100 schools through the State’s K-12 testing program. The CEVT Viral Genomics and Surveillance Lab remains the top submitter in Louisiana of viral sequences to GISAID, an international database.
