For my second year going to Southern University at Shreveport Foundation's 22nd annual Gentlemen's Cooking Classic, things were turned up a notch with everything from food options to attendance.

1. Tell us about your family and growing up in Shreveport: I grew up in South Shreveport, and looking back, I enjoyed growing up here. As a kid, South Park Mall seemed as if it was the center of the universe because that's where all the exciting things happened, and it was the place to be seen. A pivotal point was being a part of a French exchange Program, where a boy my age from France came to live with my family for a period of time. It seemed like he was from another planet because of everything he had never seen or heard of. He was from a very small town outside of Avignon, France, and had never traveled. Once school was out, I traveled to France to stay in his hometown and experience what seemed to me like a different world. With all of its challenges, I still love Shreveport and believe there are so many opportunities for me here. After living in East Texas for a brief time, I moved back to Shreveport to be closer to work. My wife Maggie works as a Perfusionist, and my son Wesley is a Junior at Byrd High School.

Shreveport police found an on-the-run burglary suspect hiding in a neighbor’s dryer Friday morning. On June 14 at 5:10 a.m., the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) responded to a shots fired report on W Canal Street in the Sunset Acres neighborhood. When SPD officers got there, they found a homeowner had reportedly fired shots at a man who allegedly was trying to steal something from her yard. “He went to the lady across the street yard to get his backpack he had stashed over there and rode over there to get the equipment. I ran up on him and said, ‘Where my s*** at?’ He dropped his bike, and I fired my arm,” said Rochelle Baylor, the homeowner.
