Andress Ford’s fine new life — a downtown success story

Construction crews at 717 Crockett are on the job today, stabilizing a building which has been damaged by years of neglect, roof leaks and wet interiors. Owner Jim Malsch is excited that the crews have run into no surprises yet, and that construction is moving along quickly, putting things ahead of schedule for a November 2020 finish. He is equally excited that the entire bottom floor is already leased out, and a number of entrepreneur businesses are making plans for offices on the second floor. A successful local business owner is interested in managing and running a gallery/retail space on the ground floor, and as soon as it is safe to do so, Malsh plans to host an event at artspace to give additional information to local artists about a handful of studios that will be available for monthly lease. Things are looking good for the building, but that wasn’t always the case.
