Shreve Memorial Library is partnering with Healthy Blue Louisiana and CVS Health to offer drive-thru Flu clinics at branches this November. Each year, the flu, a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses, affects millions of people throughout the United States. Symptoms of the flu come on suddenly and can include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue, and vomiting and diarrhea. Healthy Blue Louisiana, CVS Health, and Shreve Memorial Library are helping patrons protect themselves against the flu by offering flu vaccinations at drive-thru clinics at the Wallette and Hamilton/South Caddo branches.

Southwestern Electric Power Co.’s (SWEPCO) compliance plans for two recently revised environmental regulations include retiring the H.W. Pirkey Power Plant in Hallsville, Texas, in 2023 and ceasing coal operations at the Welsh Power Plant at Pittsburg, Texas, in 2028.

Vendors from Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas and Florida will be showcasing their vintage treasures at the second annual Shreveport Scottish Rite Antique and Vintage Bazaar, Friday-Sunday, November20-22. The 103-year old Scottish Rite Cathedral debuted the bazaar in 2019 and it was a hit! This year, more than 20 vendors will be set up with a variety of antique and vintage wares, from clothing and jewelry to furnishings, signage, dishes, and historical treasures specific to the Shreveport region. Several of the vendors coming are ‘pickers’ who search barns, flea markets and basements for amazing one of a kind items. These items will be available to the public Nov. 20-22.

A Shreveport man under investigation for trafficking large amounts of marijuana and methamphetamine locally was arrested and taken into custody last Wednesday, Nov. 4, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator and Natchitoches Sheriff Stuart Wright.
