Saints QB Drew Brees retires after 20 seasons in the NFL

For some, all they know is excellence at the quarterback position for the New Orleans Saints. For others, there are memories of the days of paper bags covering the disdain on the faces of the fans. Days of rooting for the “Aints” to somehow find a way to be relevant. Once Archie Manning hung up his cleats for the final time, the position was manned by the likes of Dave Wilson and Ken Stabler until Bobby Hebert came along. He was to be the savior; unfortunately, that didn’t pan out as planned in the long run. The years to follow yielded mediocre seasons and subpar quarterback play from Wade Wilson, Steve Walsh, Jim Everett, Heath Shuler and Billy Joe Tolliver. In 2000, the Saints employed Jeff Blake and Aaron Brooks at quarterback and things began looking up, but in true “Aints” fashion, the optimism surrounding Aaron Brooks quickly faded, like those before him.
