In 1999, the Shreveport City Council established a Tax Incentive Financial (TIF) district titled the Downtown Economic Development Area. This is the area under the Texas Street Bridge, often referred to as the Red River District.

The Centenary Muses, a volunteer group dedicated to funding projects and programs for Centenary students, have announced that the 34th Centenary Book Bazaar scheduled for September 10 and 11 will be canceled due to ongoing public health concerns.
