Two months ago, I was pleased to inform you that our Caddo Parish truancy numbers had gone down in 2024-2025 from the previous years. This week at a meeting to discuss our plans to attack truancy this upcoming school year, I was reminded by our truancy partner Volunteers for Youth Justice that in the year pre-Covid we had 382 truants in Caddo Parish. The next year after Covid, the number of truants suddenly skyrocketed to 3423.
