On Tuesday USA Baseball announced their 28-man U.S. Collegiate National team roster, and a pair of LSU Tigers made the cut. LSU centerfielder Dylan Cres and first baseman Tre Morgan were each selected after a five-game U.S. National team training camp in North Carolina.
As we make our way through the dog days of summer, patiently waiting on football season to arrive, I am going to dive into a little LSU football as we prep for the 2022 season. The Tigers schedule was spotlighted in last week’s issue; this week it’s the signal callers taking center stage.

Sometimes in the daily challenges that life gives us, we miss what is really important. We may fail to say hello, please, or thank you, congratulate someone on something wonderful that has happened to them, give a compliment, or just do something nice for no reason.
It is very hard for me to say it, but 2022 is half over! In June I finished my third legislative session as Louisiana State Senator serving District 36, which includes much of Bossier, Bienville, Claiborne and all of Webster Parish.
As this year was a non-fiscal session, most legislation pertained to issues unrelated to the budget. However, Louisiana was flush with cash thanks to federal government aid for COVID and hurricane recoveries. Like my Republican colleagues in the Conservative Caucus, of which I am a founding member, I worked to ensure that this federal cash didn’t cause an unsustainable growth in state government spending. Last year, like many before it, one-time money from the federal government ($720 million!) was used to grow state recurring spending. This action among others led to the Conservative Caucus’s formation last year.
Qualifying dates for the 2022 Shreveport mayoral and city council races (and other elective offices on the November primary ballet) are July 20 - July 22.
