James K. Elrod, president and CEO of Willis-Knighton Health System, was honored Tuesday, March 23, by the Shreveport City Council for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his more than 50 years of support for healthcare, public safety and cultural needs of Shreveport and the Ark-La-Tex. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Willis-Knighton Health System has cared for more patients than any other local hospital, estimated at 65% of all hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Northwest Louisiana. It was noted in the resolution submitted by Councilman James E. Green, that Elrod, the longest-tenured hospital administrator in the nation, has transformed what was once a small neighborhood hospital into a major health system serving the region. He was named a Louisiana Legend in 2019 by Louisiana Public Broadcasting.
The countdown is on for the Friday, March 26, opening in March of the Black Girl Magic Museum (BGMM) at The Standard, 509 Market St.
