Elrod, president and CEO of Willis-Knighton Health System, was honored Tuesday, March 23, by the Shreveport City Council for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his more than 50 years of support for healthcare, public safety and cultural needs of Shreveport and the Ark-La-Tex. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Willis-Knighton Health System has cared for more patients than any other local hospital, estimated at 65% of all hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Northwest Louisiana. It was noted in the resolution submitted by Councilman James E. Green, that Elrod, the longest-tenured hospital administrator in the nation, has transformed what was once a small neighborhood hospital into a major health system serving the region. He was named a Louisiana Legend in 2019 by Louisiana Public Broadcasting.
