The EVT Viral Genomics and Sequencing Lab at LSU Health Shreveport is first in the state to sequence and report that a new variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, has been detected in Louisiana. The new variant, B.1.630, was sequenced last week from two samples collected in Baton Rouge.
Shreveport-Bossier City will welcome 150 of the best all-around retrievers and sporting dogs to compete in outdoor sports in the Field and on the Dock for seven days of competition starting with the Super Retriever Series (SRS) Super Dock competition this weekend, Oct. 15-17, and Retriever Trials Oct. 19-24. Shreve Memorial Library’s mobile makerspace, the Make & Go, is bringing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) learning to library branches throughout Caddo Parish. This month, the SML Make & Go is inviting children ages 8 years and older to get ready for “Lights. Camera. Action!” with stop-motion LEGO workshops. The workshops will be held at Shreve Memorial Library branches starting Oct. 12.
Centenary College has announced the new Centenary Affordability Pledge (CAP), an initiative that will provide full tuition coverage for all new, incoming Louisiana students who are Pell Grant and TOPS eligible. Under the CAP, the college will cover any tuition expenses that remain after the Pell and TOPS awards have been applied.
