Centenary College hires Dr. Latoya Pierce as first dean of diversity, equity and inclusion and chief diversity officer

Dr. Latoya Pierce, an academic and educator with deep experience in fostering multicultural awareness and dialogue and instituting inclusive practices and processes, will join Centenary in January 2022 as the College’s first dean of diversity, equity and inclusion and chief diversity officer. Pierce comes to Centenary from St. Bonaventure University in New York, where she was director of the university’s enormously successful online master’s program in counselor education and is also currently serving as interim dean of the School of Education.

Prepare for Thanksgiving at Shreve Memorial Library with stories and crafts

Shreve Memorial Library branches are inviting the public to get ready for the Thanksgiving holidays with stories, crafts and family fun. Children of all ages are invited to visit library branches now through Nov. 24 to hear stories of turkey, friendship, and Thanksgiving in advance of the holidays. All Shreve Memorial Library branches will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25, and Friday, Nov. 26, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

National Salute ceremonies honoring Veterans Day and the Centennial of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The American Rose Society and the American Rose Center invite the public to attend a National Salute honoring Veterans Day on Nov. 9 at America’s Rose Garden. Guests are encouraged to gather at 10 a.m. for a briefing and solemn walk to the David & Sandy Long "Never Forget" Garden, with ceremonies to begin at 11 a.m.

SML honors veterans Nov. 9 – 11

Shreve Memorial Library is honoring military personnel, both past and present, with a series of events in celebration of Veterans Day. Veterans Day is recognized annually on Nov. 11 to honor veterans of all military branches who have served in war and in peace. Special Veterans Day programs, including the annual Freedom Tree lighting at the North Shreveport Branch, will take place Tuesday, Nov. 9, through Thursday, Nov. 11, at several Shreve Memorial Library branches. All programs are free and open to the public.
