Holy Cross Hope House: Caring for our city’s poor
During the summer of 2019, when I first started as the priest at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, we received a small donation of $13,000 to aid in housing the homeless. With that money, we began to house 20 people.
Noel Memorial United Methodist Church’s BSA Troop 15 celebrates 100th anniversary
Boy Scout Troop 15 has been serving the youth of Shreveport for 100 years. The Troop first applied to the National Council for an official Charter on Oct. 21, 1921. This predates the Norwela Council which was established in 1923. Noel Memorial United Methodist Church has chartered Boy Scout Troop 15 since its inception. There have been many dedicated Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters and adult leaders that have served Troop 15 throughout the years, most members of Noel, guiding boys to becoming productive young men prepared for life.
Uncommon Sundays in Caddo Common Park
The Shreveport Regional Arts Council in collaboration with Caddo Parks and Recreation will presents its 3rd month of UNCOMMON programming in Caddo Common Park. Sunday afternoon, 12 noon – 4:30 p.m.), June 20, the park will feature “Sunday in the Park with Artists … and Animals.” The free event is sponsored by Ochsner LSU Health, Citizens National Bank, Community Network Inc., and a grant from the Community Foundation of North Louisiana. The activities are planned with an emphasis to entertain and recognize fathers on their special annual day.
Animal Adoption Saturdays resume at Bossier City Animal Control
Beginning last weekend, Bossier City Animal Control resumed its Saturday animal adoption events. The Saturday adoptions at the facility were suspended during the renovation and as a result of COVID restrictions. With the help of volunteers from Hand in Paw, Bossier City Animal Control at 3217 Old Shed Road will be open this Saturday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Adoption fees for dogs are $100, and adoption fees for cats are $70. Volunteers will also be at PetSmart in Bossier City with animals from BCAC available for adoption on Saturday.
Citizens National Bank to open in New Orleans region
Veteran banking executive James Hudson, who founded and led Omni Bank for 23 years, will open Citizens National Bank’s first south Louisiana branch this fall as its president of the New Orleans region.
