Visit the Junior League Pumpkin Patch at Provenance
It’s finally feeling like fall! Dust off your boots, get out your sweaters, and get ready to pick some perfect pumpkins at the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier’s Pumpkin Patch at Provenance! This month-long event not only raises funds to help the Junior League carry its mission forward, but also provides fun and wholesome activities for the entire community to enjoy.
Located in the Provenance neighborhood off the Southern Loop in Shreveport, the Patch is open seven days a week through October 30th – Mondays through Fridays from 3:30p to 6:30p; Saturdays from 10:30a to 6:30p; and Sundays from 12:00p to 6:30p. There are events for all ages to enjoy. Provenance will host their popular fall Farmer’s Market at the patch every Thursday. Bring the whole family out for Halloween movies on the big screen every Friday evening, and head back to the Patch on Saturday mornings for kids’ crafts and spooky storytelling. On Sunday afternoons, the Patch will feature hayrides, yummy treats, and family fun activities – including petting zoos, magic shows, face painting and more! Please see the calendar for all details or visit jlsb.org for more information.
Naturally, the Pumpkin Patch is a beautiful setting nestled between the lakes of the Provenance neighborhood with the vibrant colors of fall on display. It makes the perfect backdrop for fall photographs of the family or just the kids! Stroll along the paths lined with unique varieties of pumpkins – from the standard orange of all sizes to unique fairytale pumpkins in shades of white, green and peach, as well as specialty gourds including “swan gourds.” Any purchase of $50 in pumpkins will receive a chance to win a diamond band from Sid Potts Fine Jewelry, one of the League’s generous corporate sponsors.
All proceeds from pumpkin purchases will benefit the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier. The Junior League’s mission is to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women, and improve the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
One of the most visible ways that we improve the community is through our six current community programs: Health Literacy Initiative Summer Camp (in partnership with the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club), Super Safety Saturday (in partnership with Sheriff’s Safety Town and the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office), Revel Artist for a Day (in partnership with the Red River Revel), Safe Sitter (serving local nonprofits such as Community Renewal and VOANL), MAGIC (in partnership with VOANL Lighthouse Teen Club), and the Red Apron Pantry (in partnership with the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana). Each of these programs aim to provide underserved populations with the life skills, nourishment, and experiences necessary to provide access to a higher quality of life in our community.
In addition, the League also provides funding opportunities to any local nonprofit through our Community Assistance Program grants, which provide emergency funding for critical needs. Staying true to our mission points of developing leaders and promoting voluntarism, the League also serves its membership of over 600 women by providing a variety of training opportunities to further leadership and voluntarism.
For 87 years, the Junior League has been an advocate and dedicated volunteer force addressing the pressing needs of our community. The Junior League is behind some of the most well-known non-profits and initiatives in this area, including the original Community Chest (which evolved into the United Way), the Council for the Aging, the Mollie E. Webb Speech and Hearing Center, the Rutherford House, and the Pioneer Heritage Center at LSUS. Perhaps our most well-known contribution to this community is the Red River Revel, which was the League’s Bicentennial gift to the community, and to this day has a significant economic impact on this area. Join us at the Patch this year to buy pumpkins, have some fun, and support the work of the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier!
