Centenary’s Meadows Museum of Art hosts artist conversation March 5

The Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College will highlight Melanie Parent, one of the artists featured in its spring 2020 exhibit season, during a free community event at the Museum this week. The informal “Conversation with Melanie Parent” is scheduled for Thursday, March 5, at 6:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Parent, a native of Northwest Louisiana, has turned to photography as a way to overcome the fear and anxiety she felt for years when leaving her home. After her husband gave her a camera as a gift, Parent found herself venturing out of her home in order to revisit and explore cherished places from her youth. In the process, she has entered new territory – both literally and figuratively – as she talks to the people she encounters, gathering histories and tales of the land she explores. Her solo photography show at the Meadows is entitled Gone But Forgotten.

“The Meadows is pleased to present this opportunity for the public to hear local artist Melanie Parent tell her unique story about how she entered into the world of lens-based expression, and the stories that come with her photographic adventures,” says Heather F. Wetzel, director of the Meadows Museum. “Hearing these stories in the gallery among her images will offer further insight into not only her process, but also the history and connection to the places depicted within the exhibition.”

The spring 2020 exhibits at the Meadows run through April 18, 2020. For more information, visit themeadowsmuseum.com.
