Police make arrest in weekend murder attempt
Investigators with the Shreveport Police Departments Violent Crimes unit have a man in custody following a home invasion / murder attempt this weekend.
On June 27, 2020 just after 10:00 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 4100 block of Jacob Street on reports of a home invasion. Arriving officers learned that a man allegedly entered a home in the block without consent and once inside battered the victim and fired several shots at him; luckily, he was not struck. The suspect fled the scene in what is believed to be a black Nissan Altima.
Investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit were called to the scene and worked through the night to procure warrants for 25-year-old Dekoria Kennedy of the 4700 block of Hilry Huckaby III Avenue, charging him with (1) count of Attempted Second Degree Murder and (1) count of Home Invasion.
Just before 6:00 a.m., on June 28, investigators took Kennedy into custody at an apartment complex in north Shreveport. Following interviews with investigators, he was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on his warrants.
