Man accused in beating of a 14-month-old child

Shreveport Police have arrested a man accused in the mid-May beating of a 14-month-old child in north Shreveport

On May 16, 2020, Shreveport Police were called to Ochsners LSU Health Hospital on reports of an injured child. Hospital staff contacted police after a child arrived with a suspicious femur fracture.

Investigators with the Youth Services Bureau responded and launched their initial investigation. Following a weeks long investigation, detectives deduced that 29-year-old Lajondai Palmer, of the 3100 block of Desoto Street, was responsible for injuring the child. On July 2, 2020, investigators procured two warrants for Palmer’s arrest charging him with one count of Second Degree Cruelty to a Juvenile and one count of Obstruction of Justice. There was no bond set on the cruelty charge and a $15,000.00 bond was set for the obstruction charge.

Earlier today, detectives took Palmer into custody. Following interviews with investigators, he was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on his charges.
