Teen shot while passenger in vehicle

Shreveport Police are investigating the shooting death of a 17-year-old juvenile in north Shreveport early Thursday morning.

On July 9, 2020, just after 1:00 a.m., Shreveport Police were called to the 2900 block of Peach Street on reports of a shooting. Officers arrived and located the 17-year-old victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his head. Deveonte Jeter, 17, was shot in the head while a passenger in a vehicle on David Raines Road around 1 a.m. He was taken to Ochsner LSU Health hospital, where he died at 10:36 a.m.  Officers learned that the shooting incident occurred near the intersection of David Raines Road and Peach Street and were able to locate that crime scene.

Investigators with the Crime Scene and Violent Crimes Unit were summoned to the scene and initiated their investigations. Crime Scene Investigators collected evidence and detectives searched for witnesses.  Detectives learned that the victim was the passenger in a small SUV and was turning onto Peach Street when an unknown make/model vehicle travelling in an unknown direction began firing multiple shots toward the SUV. The 17-year-old victim was struck during the incident. Detectives are attempting to locate additional witnesses in this incident and are asking those with information to come forward.
