Hammons makes positive impact at first Bossier council meeting

At long last, SoBo, as in South Bossier, has a duly elected council member. Brian Hammons took office as the Bossier District 1 council representative at last week's Bossier council meeting on Dec. 21.

District Judge Mike Craig swore Hammons into office. As a friendly aside, Craig said that Brian may not get it right every time, but he loved Bossier City more than anyone else.

Craig's comments obviously put the hoodoo on his childhood friend. On his first council vote, Hammons hit the “No” button versus the “Yes” button.

After that, Hammons was on cruise control and participated very actively in the meeting.

Hammons noted that he had received several constituents' calls on various issues. He questioned the constituent’s representative several times during a construction project status report.

Hammons' construction background will be especially helpful to the council due to a large number of expensive construction projects currently underway, as well as those on the drawing board.

Currently, Bossier has employed Manchac to serve as the city engineer. Many have questioned if this is a good government practice, especially since that office oversees the construction projects Manchac is managing.
