SLT presents a reading of the comedy Ripcord

Ripcord, by David Lindsay-Abaire and directed by Karyn Rimmer, is Shreveport Little Theatre’s third reading in a new series of play readings, NEW VOICES.

There will be only one reading of the play, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 25 at Shreveport Little Theatre located at 812 Margaret Place.

Admission is free but seating is limited and is first come, first served.

In this wacky and inventive comedy, two elderly women in a nursing home make a bet with each other to win possession of the coveted room they have been forced to share. This bet takes them everywhere from a haunted house attraction, to skydiving from an airplane. By the end of the bet the hearts and souls of both women have been revealed for better and worse and their lives are changed forever.

Ripcord was originally produced off- Broadway with actresses Holland Taylor and Rachel Dratch in a production directed by Frasier actor David Hyde Pierce. Author David Lindsay-Abaire is best known for writing the Pulitzer Prize winning play Rabbit Hole and the book and lyrics for Shrek the Musical.

The play will be performed as a reading, with the actors seated and reading from the script. The cast includes Debbie Posey, Jan Adams, Josh Hires, Thomas Rimmer, Angela Thomas, and John Daniel.  At the end of the reading, the audience will be asked to complete anonymous comment cards used to gauge their interest in the play and determine whether they would like to see a full production of the play in a future SLT season.

This new play reading series, NEW VOICES, is meant to be an incubator for new SLT productions and is an opportunity for the public to experience free readings of contemporary and fresh new works not yet staged locally. Ten plays are scheduled to be in the series during SLT’s current 98th Season.  The NEW VOICES series was created by SLT’s artistic director Dr. Robert Darrow and is being managed by actor and director John Daniel.

Directors and actors who wish to participate in future readings should contact SLT’s box office at (318) 424-4439.
