According to Reynolds, inmates at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center are required to pay for some of their medical treatment if they have money in a BDCC account. Reynolds said Burris apparently thought he could avoid having to pay for the treatment if he had no money in his account.

Minden Chief of Police Steve Cropper identified the two as 21- year-old Brian Gilbert, a Minden resident, and 20-year-old Ladarrius Shelton of Homer. Both are charged with the armed robbery of a local convenience store on the corner of East Union and Fort Street.

According to Baker, undercover agents posing as dealers set up a “reverse sting” operation in a room at a motel in Springhill around 1 p.m. Jan. 8. The sting continued until the early morning hours of Jan. 9. Suspects were arrested after they made illegal narcotics purchases from the undercover officers.

“While running a search warrant on Johnson’s cell phone, (Springhill PD) Detective Bryan Montgomery came across video of a young female who was topless and appeared to be very intoxicated. From that, we interviewed her, and she was able to identify who was there and whose phone it was.

Now I’ll admit that most of us do not regularly run down to our local supermarket to check on whether a fresh shipment of horsemeat has arrived. But I’m not all that enamored by eating nutria, a large rat, that is regularly publicized as a tasty dish by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

As the largest recipient of taxpayer dollars in Caddo Parish, the CPSB is indeed an important position. The school board generally receives less publicity than the Shreveport City Council or the Caddo Commission. And similarly, the “political importance” assigned to service as a school board member is the least appreciated.
