Following a jury trial, Jones was found guilty as charged and sentenced in May of 2017, to 10 years at hard labor, with one year to be served without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence. Jones’s motions for new trial, postverdict judgment of acquittal and reconsideration of sentence were denied by the appeals court.

Now I’ll admit that most of us do not regularly run down to our local supermarket to check on whether a fresh shipment of horsemeat has arrived. As the largest recipient of taxpayer dollars in Caddo Parish, the CPSB is indeed an important position. The school board generally receives less publicity than the Shreveport City Council or the Caddo Commission. And similarly, the “political importance” assigned to service as a school board member is the least appreciated.
