Following a jury trial, Jones was found guilty as charged and sentenced in May of 2017, to 10 years at hard labor, with one year to be served without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence. Jones’s motions for new trial, postverdict judgment of acquittal and reconsideration of sentence were denied by the appeals court.

Post-Miranda, Blackshire-Andrew said that Long was fighting her because she would not give him the truck keys. After he refused to leave, police were notified. The suspect left on his own before the officer’s arrival. The officer made contact with the suspect and told him he was not allowed back on Sam’s Town property. He said he was going and would not return.
