This is the 25th year the Bossier Optimist Grants have been handed out, totaling more than $402,000 to date. The grant program got its start when the daughter of Bossier Optimist Club member Al Yantis approached her father about the organization helping fund a set of books for her Bossier Parish classroom.

The Sheriff’s Scholarship of $500 is made possible by the Louisiana Sheriff’s Honorary Membership Program (LSHMP). Louisiana sheriffs provide scholarships to graduating high school students from each parish where the sheriff is an affiliate of the program.
